‘Bato’ dela Rosa tells EJK critics: ‘Bring it on’

Former PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who is poised to land a Senate seat, challenged his critics to go after him for the alleged extra-judicial killings (EJKs) in the Duterte administration’s bloody war against illegal drugs.

“Bring it on, bring it on. Whatever they want, I will not run away,” said Dela in an interview over Channel 2’s ABS-CBN News Channel.

Dela Rosa, who also served as Director of the Bureau of Corrections before he quit to run for senator, was the top police officer when Duterte launched his campaign against illicit drug operations.

“Whatever, whatever, whenever,” said Dela Rosa when confronted with the possibility of being investigated by the Hague’s International Criminal Court (ICC) over what human rights activists described as summary killings.

Dela Rosa was among the respondents in crimes against humanity complaint filed by a Filipino lawyer with the ICC, a court of last resort.

The said court announced in February 2018 that it started a preliminary examination into the Philippine war on drugs. But Dela Rosa remained unperturbed and maintained that they were just doing their job.

After addressing the apparent bias of the ICC in handling the case, Duterte cancelled the Philippines’ membership in the ICC.

PHP 10-M bounty for ex-cop who claims Duterte’s economic adviser had links to drug trade

Former police officer, Eduardo Acierto, who claimed while in hiding that President Duterte’s Chinese economic adviser Michael Yang is linked to the illegal drug trade, is wanted by Malacañang so that a PHP10-million reward for his arrest has been offered.

Even Acierto’s coddlers and protectors, suspected of helping him elude capture despite a warrant issued by a Manila court for his alleged involvement in the importation of shabu concealed in magnetic lifters, are the objects of a manhunt by authorities.

A former police senior superintendent, Acierto was also deputy director for administration of the elite Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who last month appeared before select members of the media and revealed that Yang was involved in the illegal drug trade, along with another Chinese national close to Duterte, Allan Lim.

Before he went into hiding after he was linked to the multi-billion shabu shipment at Customs, Acierto said he filed a police report on the alleged illegal activities of Yang and Lim. But he claimed the PNP officials and Malacañang sat on the report, thus implying that Duterte tolerated these nefarious activities when they involve people close to him.

Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said, “The bounty is from Malacañang, so I’m not privy to where it will be sourced. It’s not from the Justice Department because it’s certainly larger than what the DOJ could offer,” Guevarra told reporters.

Guevarra said the Justice Department is not focused on the reward money because his agency’s focus is on Acierto’s coddlers and protectors.

“(His coddlers will be) wherever Acierto may be found hiding and brought to inquest immediately,” he stressed.

Gov’t rejects PHP 125 daily minimum increase

Article from www.filamstar.com
By William Casis | FilAm Star Correspondent

Economic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said the government rejected the proposed PHP 125 increase in the daily minimum wage, saying this could displace workers, increase inflation and affect the economy.

He said NEDA conducted an impact analysis and found that the proposed wage hike would affect employment because many small companies would not be able to afford to keep their workers or hire more.

“Especially micro, small and medium enterprises will be hard up with that kind of an increase,” Pernia said.
