Money Transferring Will Welcome New Faces to the U.S. Dollar
When you’re money transferring, the most important question on your mind is “how can I send money?” You’ll look at the dollar amount you’re sending, but rarely take a second glance at the picture on the currency. This could be because you’re not familiar with the people featured on U.S. dollars, that you’ve seen the pictures too many times for it to impress you, or simply because you never cared to look. Whatever the reasoning, now is a good time to start paying more attention to your money.
There’s lots of buzz about African American abolitionist Harriet Tubman, and her replacement of Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. She’ll take Jackson’s spot on the front of the bill, and he’ll be featured on the back next to an image of the white house. Tubman gained the most votes, although she was up against fierce competition such as Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt. It was her dedication to equality and freedom that won the hearts of the voters.
Tubman’s representation on U.S. currency is a huge victory for both African Americans and women. This is not the first time women have been depicted on U.S. currency, but it’s been awhile since a woman has been selected. The first woman to be featured was Pocahontas, but it has been over a century since another woman was featured on an American dollar. In addition, this will be the first time an African American has ever made it on U.S. currency.
The Treasury Department also announced that they’ll be featuring seven more women in upcoming designs. The women to be featured include: Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Sojourner Truth. These women will be featured on the $10 bill. Marian Anderson and Eleanor Roosevelt will be featured on the $5 dollar bill.
